Introduction
for convenience I have divided this into two flights though there were about four but I didn't note where the breaks occurred. interesting tasting hosted by Sommeliers Australia, pretty good fun and lot's of wines I'd not tried before.
Flight 1 - Whites (9 Notes)
Love the vin de constance, intrigued by the FMC, enamoured by the Hamilton Russell
Flight 2 - Reds (8 Notes)
Surprised by the Paul Cluver, loved the Badenhorst

2010 David Nieuwoudt Sémillon Ghost Corner
South Africa, Cape South Coast, Cape Agulhas, Elim
Pale lemon, clear and bright with slight tears. Medium intensity, clear and youthful with aromas of fresh cut grass, slight lime citrus, touches of cats pee, ,herbaceous - mint - and pyrazine notes. In the mouth the wine is dry with medium plus acidity, slight phenolic grip, medium plus alcohol, medium body and medium minus flavour intensity, slight petillance, green, herbaceous notes, sour and a short finish. Nah - acid spike and bitterness.

2012 Ataraxia Sauvignon Blanc
South Africa, Cape South Coast, Walker Bay, Hemel-en-Aarde Valley
Pale lemon green, clear, bright, tears. Medium plus intensity, clear and youthful with aromas of passion fruit, green capsicum, citrus - lemon, slight musk/sweaty notes. In the mouth the wine is dry with medium plus acid, medium alcohol, medium plus body, medium minus flavour intensity with flavours of sulphur, bitter, unripe/green notes and sour fruit with a medium plus length finish. Nah, unripe and bitter.

2010 Cape Point Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc
South Africa, Coastal Region, Cape Point
Medium lemon, clear, bright, tears. Medium intensity, clean and developing with aromas of farmyard, meaty/savoury and wet wool that slowly dissipated to reveal herbaceous notes, slight citrus fruit, oak, some pear and a slight candied notes. In the mouth the wine is dry, medium acid, phenolic grip, medium plus alcohol and body, medium flavour intensity with flavours of gooseberry, slight green apple & pear, bitter tastes intrude on the medium plus finish

2011 Mullineux Old Vines White
South Africa, Coastal Region, Swartland
Medium gold, clear with medium tears. Medium minus intensity, clear, developing, apricot, ginger, melon, bread and yeast. In the mouth the wine is dry with medium plus acid and alcohol - that is warming. Medium body, medium plus flavour intensity with flavours of green apple, honey, cinnamon, white pepper on the finish. Nice, feels a bit warm but alcohol is only 12.5%.

2011 Beaumont Family Wines Hope Marguerite

Pale gold, clear and bright with medium tears. Medium intensity, clear, developing with aromas, honey, lemon citrus and green apple, lanolin, slight sweep spice, slight minerality - wet stone and yoghurt notes. In the mouth the wine is dry with medium plus acid, medium alcohol, medium body and flavour intensity and flavours of green apple, honey, sweet spice and white pepper. Good, primary fruit, balanced.

2010 Ken Forrester Chenin Blanc The FMC

Medium intensity gold, clear with slow tears. Medium intensity, clear, developing with aromas of honey, vanilla, cream, oak, slight cedar and a kind of confected note or apricot/orange marmalade and brioche - a touch of botrytis perhaps? In the mouth the wine is dry with some residual sugar, medium minus acid, medium plus alcohol, body and flavour intensity with flavours of orange, honey, sweet spice, cream, vanilla but a short finish. Hmm. Lots of good stuff and a bit of bad stuff. Oak and fruit balance is nigh on perfect but the lack of acid is an issue as is the illusion of mouth weight from oak and botrytis but the botrytis seems to eat into the finish which is quite short. On a personal level I rather like it.

2010 Jordan Winery (Jardin) Chardonnay Nine Yards

Medium gold, clear, bright, legs. Medium plus intensity, developing and clean with aromas of cream vanilla, toast, butter, peach, nectarine, sweet spice, butterscotch, phenolic grip. In the mouth the wine is dry with medium acid, medium plus alcohol that is warm and rather intrudes, medium plus body and flavour intensity with flavours of peach, tends to tropical fruit, vanilla, cream, some phenolic grip, medium plus finish.

2011 Hamilton Russell Vineyards Chardonnay
South Africa, Cape South Coast, Walker Bay, Hemel-en-Aarde Valley
Medium lemon, legs, clear and bright. Medium intensity, clean and developing with aromas of peach subtle toasted oak, yoghurt and slight butter. In the mouth the wine is dry with medium plus acid, slight phenolic grip that is quite chalky on the tongue, medium alcohol, medium plus body and medium flavour intensity with flavours of slight citrus and peach and sweet spice on the medium plus finish.

2007 Klein Constantia Vin de Constance

Medium amber, clear with legs. Clean and developing with medium plus intensity aromas of grape, jammy notes, sweet spice, clove, toast , vanilla, orange marmalade. In the mouth the wine is sweet with medium plus acid, medium minus alcohol, medium body, medium flavour intensity with flavours of apricot and grape compote, vanilla, orange marmalade. Very good.
