Introduction
Main event was a vertical of Chateau Gazin, Pomerol, all provided by Rick Sellers, plus a couple of nice Pauillacs from Greg and Geoff. Those present:

Closing
Fascinating to see the differences and similarities between the five vintages. Soft, fruit-led wines, but with a lot of finesse. A real pleasure.
1978 Château Gazin Pomerol 87 Points
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
Clear, ruby, slightly fading to rim, no bricking at all, doesn't look like a 35-year old wine. Clean nose, menthol, eucalyptus, fruits still very positive, cassis. Medium palate, tannins completely softened, still some acid backbone, short-medium to finish. With time, became rather chalky.

1981 Château Gazin Pomerol 83 Points
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
Clear, quite light ruby, watery rim, limited bricking. Clean nose, menthol, smoke, soft fruits, not intense. On the palate, rather acid without the offsetting fruit, little depth. Medium finish. Fell apart very quickly after opening.

1985 Château Gazin Pomerol 88 Points
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
Clear, darker ruby, slight bricking to edge. Clean nose, dark fruits dominate, cassis, some cherries, spices. Very full on the palate, tannins nicely integrated, acids very light, a very forward wine. Medium+ finish.

1990 Château Gazin Pomerol 91 Points
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
Clear, dark ruby right to the rim, no bricking. Clean nose, cassis, pepper, quite closed, even 1 hour after decanting. On the palate, full, quite strong acid, less forward, I found some surprising green notes. Very long finish. With time, secondary notes started to come through - chocolate, mint. At full maturity but definitely still needs time with air to open up.

1995 Château Gazin Pomerol 90 Points
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
Clear, dark purple, no variation to the edge. Clean, very closed, even after 2 1/2 hours after decanting. Plummy fruits started to come through with time. Very full palate, still noticeable tannins, not fully integrated, fruit remaining quite closed. Medium+ finish.
