Supper with ex Rabo crew

supper with Loulou, Cheryl, Jo and Ivan at an old favourite, the sardine room. Sketchy tasting notes as jotted down on scraps of paper whilst all roundly gave me a hard time for being a 'wine-ponce'

  I'm not a fizz man but this was jolly nice - the chardonnay shines and the slight pre-baked brioche note adds complexity and weight. Lovely.

• 1998 Mount Pleasant Wines Sémillon Single Vineyard Lovedale

  Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley

  Honey, toast, slightly nutty, elements of cream and butter, slight apple notes. Glorious. In a great place at the moment, a fully mature Hunter Semillon. What a wonderful drink.

  Simple, subtle, peach, some slight creaminess as well.
