Dinner with Friends

We met our friends Rick & Cris for dinner at E&S to enjoy some terrific seafood, wine and conversation. After dinner we continued the evening at our house for some dessert and a couple of sweeties to end the evening.

  L83712, disgorged September 2011. Aromas of berry, clay, yeast, stone and apples. Good bead, medium texture with flavors of berries and mineral. Long finish.

• 2011 Journeyman Chardonnay 91 Points

  USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

  Opened by Rick & Cris. Pale color. Aromas of coconut, banana and apple with a nice dose of oak. Medium- to full-bodied, coconut milk, white fruit, toast and oak with a clove-like quality on the finish. The oak is well-used here. Very nice.

• 1996 Bodegas Reyes Ribera del Duero Teofilo Reyes Tinto Cosecha 92 Points

  Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero

  Garnet core with some bricking. Has a musty note at first, I thought perhaps TCA, but no, this blossomed as it opened. Aroams of sandalwood, saddle leather, macerated red berries and rose petals. Balanced, with lovely red fruit, sandalwood and leather tones. Nice, balanced finish. Drink now.

• 2010 David Noyes Pinot Noir Crane Vineyards 91 Points

  Opened by Rick & Cris. I was not familiar with this producer before tonight, but what an enjoyable, well-crafted wine. Deep color featuring black cherry, cotton candy, floral and spice aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with bright red fruit flavors- raspberry and cherry, along with cinnamon and Asian spices and vanilla. Nicely balanced with good acidity. 91+ pts.

  Dark maple syrup in color with aromas of caramel, roasted nuts, dried fruit and spice. Thick, rch texture with flavors that mirror the bouquet. Long finish. 94-95 pts.

  Light color with notes of lemon, melon, cotton and lanolin. Good acidity on the palate; flavors of white fruit, melon and citrus. Finishes nicely.
