Introduction

I had the chance to taste some new roses as well as the new 2012 Beaujolais wines from Chermette with Peter Weygandt. Not a bad way to spend a sunny Saturday.

Flight 1 - Random Wines Opened on a Sunny Afternoon (2 Notes)

  • 2012 Bedrock Wine Co. Sauvignon Blanc Kick Ranch 91 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County

First bottle of my Bedrock order, and what a way to start. This SB has great aromas: guava, lime, green apple, mixed with salt, mineral and a hint of sweet basil. Mouth-puckering acid meets creamy body on the palate. Flavors of sour patch kid candies, juiy green apple, guava and a nice mineral edge. Just a hint of hazelnut (some of the wine saw French oak and acacia wood). Long finish. I really like the combination of styles and flavors this wine shows. Really solid SB that would appeal to a lot of palates.

  • 2002 Domaine Langlois-Château Saumur-Champigny Château de Varrains 86 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur-Champigny

Shutdown on the nose at first, but it really opened up, but only after six hours open. At first is was muted and briny, but after six hours it started showing sweet roses and dried berries. It is a bit over the hill, which is what I thought upon first pour, but it did mellow out to show more green olive, rose petal and dried fruit flavors. A savory aspect made this great with grilled veggies. Over the hill, but it goes to show that time open can do wonders for old wines.
