Pale. Pear and floral aromas. Medium weight. Sweet citrus entry, bright acidity, so so concentration, dry, mineral finish.

2010 Domaine Faury Saint-Joseph Blanc

France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Saint-Joseph

Light yellow. Very fragrant and floral. Medium weight, ripe peach fruit. Exotic but dry, good acidity. Also has a slight dip in the mid-palate.

Light pink. Classic melon rind nose. Rich, glossy, medium weight with some back of palate tannin.

2010 Château de Beaucastel Côtes du Rhône Coudoulet de Beaucastel

Medium ruby. Lots of bark. Light to medium body, restrained dark fruit, good acid, some tannins. Serious and definitely not an early charmer.

2008 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée

Medium center, light rim. Stalky, vegetal aromas. Light, green and dry on the palate with ungenerous texture and high acidity. Not particularly attractive and I wouldn't wait to drink if I owned it since there is modest fruit to begin with. Once that is gone, there will be nothing left.

2010 Domaine Durieu Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Lucile Avril

Deep core. Ripe dark red fruit. Modern, woody style. Very young, undeveloped, round, chewy and tannic. This seems like a wine that will just fall apart rather than age gracefully.

Lighter color. Some perfume. Elegant weight, dry, savory style, certainly not overripe. I appreciate the restraint here but really expect more wine and more interest in a $60 bottle.

Medium red. Anise aromatics. Ripe black fruit, strong acidity, good depth. Very good but a one note wine at this stage. Does not strike me as 90% Grenache.

2010 Bosquet des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape A la Gloire de mon Grand-Père

Dark color, thick looking. Bright ripe cherry nose. Oozy feel, sweet and some finishing heat. This is made in a simple, syrupy, extracted style that I really don't care for.

2010 Delas Frères Hermitage Domaine des Tourettes

Medium ruby. Sweaty nose with pine needles. Densely packed flavors of blackberry jam with some flesh but not oversized. Nice mouth feel, sound but not foreboding acidity and tannin. One dimensional at present, surprisingly approachable. This could turn out to be excellent.

2009 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie Château d'Ampuis

Medium ruby. Forthcoming, resiny nose. Medium weight, soft and supple. Obvious oak, which seizes the wine somewhere in mid-palate and carries through to the finish. Elegant but too manipulated.
