Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2010 Dog Point Vineyard Chardonnay 89 Points

    New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough

Lanolin, oak, peach and some leesy notes. The wine showed better after some time to open up in the glass. Good focus and nicely textured it is a solid wine, but didn't really excite me on this occasion. I did prefer this to the 2009 version.

  • 2012 Vasse Felix Chardonnay Margaret River 87 Points

Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River

Slightly estery nose, there is also some citrus and pineapple. Medium bodied, it does have some good acid but the depth is very minimal. Good only.

Flight 2 (2 Notes)

  • 2004 Trimbach Riesling Clos Ste. Hune 93 Points

    France, Alsace

Beautifully floral on opening, tinged with ginger, apricot, pineapple and spice, this is immediately impressive out of the bottle. Medium weighted fruit with quite a bit of richness, it has fantastic acidity and a saline like minerality. Texture wise it is beautiful. Will save my next bottle for 10 years if I can, I don't think it will be extremely long lived but it does have room to improve.

  • 2011 Jacob's Creek Riesling Steingarten 88 Points

Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Eden Valley

Lime and floral nose with some honeyed notes already. The palate is quite rich and rounded, I think this is going to be an earlier drinking Steingarten.

  • 2007 Las Moradas de San Martín Vinos de Madrid Initio 90 Points

    Spain, Madrid, Vinos de Madrid

Cherry, blackberry, soy and spice on the nose with an earthy edge to it. The palate is very much in the red fruited style, with drying tannins present and providing good structure. Well balanced and the complexity was pleasing. Likeable and interesting.

Flight 6 (2 Notes)

  • 2004 Torbreck Grenache Les Amis 92 Points

Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

Chocolate raisins, pretty floral notes, blueberry and raspberry. The palate has impressive balance considering how boldly sweet the fruit is. Still very intense, I last tried this 7 years ago and it has barely budged! Give it some more time if you can.

  • 2000 Houghton Jack Mann 91 Points

Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Frankland River

Stemmy character, with blackcurrant and cedar. Well balanced and with good fruit depth even though the tannins are quite evident. Very consistent with a bottle tried mid last year and still in need some time to shed its youth.
