Introduction

What an absolute treat to get to taste these wines. While they are not made in a style that I adore, they are exciting, distinctive and tremendously interesting.

Flight 1 (4 Notes)

  • 2011 Giuseppe Quintarelli Bianco Secco Cà del Merlo

    Italy, Veneto, Veneto IGT

    Medium yellow. Some citrus and herbs on the nose. Medium weight, amazing texture and terrific inner mouth perfume. Very complex for such a young white wine and good mineral finish.

  • 2008 Giuseppe Quintarelli Primofiore Veneto IGT

    Italy, Veneto, Veneto IGT

    Medium to light ruby. Somewhat heady aromatics. Middle weight. Strong, ripe, herbal Cabernet Franc tones and brown spice. Cherry liqueur as well. Young and not yet well integrated.

  • 2003 Giuseppe Quintarelli Valpolicella Classico Superiore

    Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Valpolicella Classico Superiore

    Light center, tawny edge. Fig aromatics. Huge wine, slight residual sugar, deep and syrupy with some heat at the end. With all due respect, it was difficult to taste this and not think of something like late harvest Zinfandel.

  • 2002 Giuseppe Quintarelli Rosso del Bepi Veneto IGT

    Italy, Veneto, Veneto IGT

    Light ruby. Intoxicating aromatics of herbs and VA-this could only be an Italian wine. Some of the same Cabernet Franc notes as in the Primofiore, but more subdued. Excellent acidity and minerality. I found this to be the best balanced and most satisfying of the 3 reds.
