Greg De'eb invited us to try three of Astrolabe's white wines blind whilst we discussed final details for the Hong Kong Children's Skin Foundation Annual Auction & Dinner.
To be fair, I don't think that any of these wines were designed to be kept for 6-7 years.
2006 Astrolabe Wines Riesling 86 Points
New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough
Light straw gold colour. Nice petrolly lifted nose...quite floral...white and yellow meadow flowers. Palate is a bit sweet for me...almost cloying...but there is some balancing freshness and acidity that stops it going off the cliff. Flat finish. For me, the nose was the best part....but others whom I respect liked the wine more than I did.

2007 Astrolabe Wines Gewürztraminer 80 Points
New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough
Silver gold colour. Light and very reticent nose. Palate is very spicy and typical Gewurtztraminer..... too thick and cloying for me. One-dimensional and heavy-footed. This would tame spicy Asian food but not necessarily in a good way.

2007 Astrolabe Wines Pinot Gris 78 Points
New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough
Light green-gold colour. Nose could fool you that this is Sauvignon Blanc but, if so, it's too much at the cat's piss end of the spectrum and there's a whiff of fermented silage there too. Palate is very flat and dried out with no acidic zip. To be fair, this was probably made for very early drinking....not for 6 years on.
