Corton night : Wine and Dine

Introduction

We gathered at my place for a night with Corton theme. We had smoked mackerel, and charcuterie as starters, then salmon papillotttes for appetizer. The main dish was mushroom pasta with duck yuzukosho.

Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 1995 Louis Latour Corton-Charlemagne 85 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

    Golden colour, strong buttery smell with some sesame as well. Again melted butter on the palate which is quite off putting for me. Some acid structure come up after a while, but this is overall quite disappointing.

  • 1996 Louis Jadot Corton-Charlemagne Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot 93 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

    Light color, herbal nose, great tension, with complexity and rich flavors. I really liked the balance of it. Fantastic stuff.

  • 2003 Antonin Guyon Corton-Charlemagne 91 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

    This is quite good, and mix between the Jadot 96 and latour 95 drank the same night. It has some buttery hints but balanced out with tension and white flowers notes. It is not as refined as the Jadot, but quite good especially for 2003.

  • 2009 Rapet Père et Fils Corton-Pougets 91 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

    Decanted 2 hours, this corton is not a powerhouse: it is medium ruby, with fresh red fruits, and no real tanins. No shame of drinking one right now, but would probably be better with longer cellaring. It is a very easy one to drink.

  • 1995 P. Dubreuil-Fontaine Père & Fils Corton-Bressandes 93 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

    Very strong enticing pinot nose, this is an elegant aged Corton. It feels really Beaune to me with earthy character and a good finish.

Flight 3 - Bonus round (1 Note)

  • 2011 Ceritas Chardonnay Charles Heintz Vineyard 89 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

    Made the guests taste this one blind, and the guesses were all other the place. The pineapple in the nose is a bit overwhelming to me, and since it does not have much wood influence, some of the guesses were Sauvignon Blanc from Loire ! It is very fresh, and clean with still some density. At this point, I preferred the Porter Bass '10 for the iodine vs pineapple.

Closing

I might not have been as concentrated on the wine as usual, being late and hosting!! hence some of the short notes.
