    Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul, Serra Gaúcha, Vale dos Vinhedos

    A light nose with toast, some oyster shell and a touch of florals. On the palate it is pretty tasty actually, with a splash of sweetness and decent acidity. No depth to it, and it's a little short but it's better than I expected and perfectly drinkable.

  • 2012 Enate Chardonnay Somontano 234 86 Points

    Spain, Aragón, Somontano

    Highly perfumed aromatics - peach. melon and tropical fruits. Quite rounded on the palate with plenty of fruit ripeness coming through, for me there is not enough acid to balance it out. Medium length with a touch of spice to it.

  • 2010 Enate Chardonnay Fermentado en Barrica 83 Points

    Sawdust and oak dominate the nose, there is some apple but it's a struggle to find much else. The palate has some fruit but it doesn't have enough depth or power to balance the intense spiced oak. Not to my taste at all.

  • 1988 Domaine du Cellier de Bel-Air Chardonnay Bugey 89 Points

    When first poured it seemed a bit tired, but I left some in my glass and came back to it after a number of hours and it seemed to have come around and was showing more interest and freshness. The aromas reminded me of old Chenin Blanc - wax, old apple and straw, with a slight caramel edge to it. The palate has good balance, especially on the second try, with a salinity and minerality coming through that helped to lift the wine.

    Super charged Gewürztraminer aromas of turkish delight, rose water and musk. Intense on the palate as well, with good acidity and a kick of spice around the finish that helped maintain the interest. The alcohol does seem to be noticeable at times. This is nice now, but I don't think it will age.

  • 2012 Enate Somontano Rosado 87 Points

    Strong cherry aromas with earth and a graphite character to the nose. The palate is very dry, with plenty of spice but also a little bit of alcohol standing out from the rest of the components. Lots of pure fruit without being candied, it's nice but was nearly very good.

  • 2012 Enate Somontano Tapas 88 Points

    Purple coloured with sweet red berry fruit and some violets on the nose. Medium bodied and it is more savoury in flavour than expected with the fruitiness of the nose. There is some grip on the palate as well through tannins that provide some structure. Good value for money, but not necessarily especially Tempranillo-like in character.

    Nicely complex nose - it's earthy with cherry, violets and smoked meat aromas. The palate is somewhat disjointed, lacking flow and the alcohol sticks out a little bit too much. If the palate had been at least balanced then this would have been good.

  • 2009 Enate Somontano Cabernet-Merlot 88 Points

    Dark fruited nose with blackberry, black cherry, dark chocolate and some pepper. The palate shows plenty of soft fruit but it does build up in intensity across the mid palate and the subtle oak gives it a frame of structure. Another good value wine.

  • 2005 Enate Cabernet Sauvignon Somontano Reserva 88 Points

    Spain, Aragón, Somontano

    Spice, briar, graphite and some intense raspberry notes. Medium bodied palate, with plenty of red fruit flavour. Feels slightly out of balance right on the finish, which disrupts the length but it is otherwise enjoyable.

    I tried some of this again on the second night and the fruit was a bit flatter, and less interesting overall. Rating is for the first night.

    Quite a big dose of oak on the nose, there is some cherry, plum and blackcurrant as well. The palate has plenty of plush fruit which I thought offset the oak nicely. Medium tannins and length. Drink now while the fruit is still bright.

  • 2011 Passionvale Shiraz Steven Vineyard 90 Points

    Second time I've tried this wine. This time was blind but I didn't pick it. It is quite brightly purple in colour. The nose has some gunpowder, cherry, black pepper and briar aromas. The palate has sweet fruit with a smidge of spice to it and a tannic kick at the finish that came as a surprise. Plenty of interest with this wine and I look forward to seeing future vintages and wines.

  • 2000 Redbank Winery Sally's Paddock 91 Points

    Australia, Victoria, Western Victoria, Pyrenees

    Served blind. Spearmint, tobacco, lifted violets, earth and leather. Medium bodied but leaning more toward the elegant side of things as well as having plenty of spice, it is drinking really well now with a light touch to the tannins. This is a wine that I usually like and this was no exception.

  • 1971 Chambers Seabrook Shiraz Lakeside Flawed

    Earth, old oak and faint strawberry character. Still some tannin left on the palate but it is a little bit bitter and earthy. A curio that was past its best.
