Creamy oak and sweet red fruit on the nose but then the palate is surprisingly savoury. Classic in style. Good length. 16/20.

2004 Two Hands Shiraz Deer in the Headlights

Sweaty, marmite-y aromas. Quite a savoury palate but oddly hollow through the mid-palate: there's literally nothing there. I wonder if this is slightly reduced. 16?/20.

2011 Château Grange Cochard Morgon Vieilles Vignes

Rich, plummy fruit aromas with a polished wood sheen. Velvety palate with nicely integrated oak. Good depth of fruit and the tannins offer some grainy grip. Fresh finish. This is great. Decent value, too. 17/20.

Quite subtle lifted, leafy notes atop the fruit aromas. Very chewy at the moment and the fruit is slightly stewed. Fresh finish though. 16.5/20. 2016+

Tar, tobacco and licorice. Tannins are relatively easygoing. Good but not quite as impressive as the previous times I've tasted this wine. 16.5+/20. 2015+

Good depth of plummy fruit on the nose. Full-bodied but fresh and elegant in style. Very well made. And very easy to drink. Great VFM. 16.5/20.

Black fruit with leafy, minty aromas. Soft, juicy palate with very prominent minty characteristics. Fruit is just a little sweet and cloying for my tastes. 16/20.

Again, savoury in style but with more body - and tannin - than the Miraval. Has an almost Chablis-like steely quality. Good. 16.5/20.

Briny, saline nose but with a suggestion of something sweet lurking in the depths - orange peel, maybe? Intensely umami palate and great length. Brilliant. 17.5/20.

Understated nose by Torrontés standards: softly grapey. Palate is a little dilute and slightly saline but - on the hottest day of the year thus far - it's also a touch too warm. 15.5?/20.
