Introduction

A very instructive tasting. The 1986 was magnificent, a powerful intriguing grand wine. The 87 brought out the difference between a good year and a bad year. The young trio of 04/05/06 are all very different from each other, but they taste as thought they could turn into something as fine as the 86. But the ones in the middle were odd, showing a fatness and sweetness that makes me doubt they will last. Glad I sold mine.

    France, Alsace

    Penetrating, honeyed limey nose, smoky, full, high acid. Powerful. Too young today, but a grand wine.

  • 2005 Trimbach Riesling Clos Ste. Hune 93 Points

    France, Alsace

    Broader than the 06, smoky again, more buffered, more powdery. Riper. Has a minty note. Intense and long. Fine and grand.

  • 2004 Trimbach Riesling Clos Ste. Hune 93 Points

    More obvious petrol on the nose. Softer. More evolved than the previous two. Has a pinot gris like richness to it. More earth in there. Fat for CSH. Some detected a herbaceous streak and there did seem to be some cats pee. Fine and approachable. Others present were not as enthusiastic.

    Much sweeter on the nose, fat on the palate. Lacks the tension of the wines in the first flight. Sickly. Cobwebs. Was I being paranoid about the pox? I was alone in disliking this. Most were enthusiastic.

  • 2001 Trimbach Riesling Clos Ste. Hune

    This too has a malty, almost Juarancon like note, nutty, almond paste, some cobwebs. Odd and untypical and hard to see where it's going. One or two present rated this very highly.

    Now this I liked immensely and again was out of line with the consensus. Lifted, marmaladey. Fresh. Some oiliness to the texture. Botrytis, but not at all sweet. Perhaps old before its time.
