Dark golden color gave me some concern to start, but that quickly went away. Ripe apple, clove, mint, oak spice and subtle forest floor aromas, then dense and powerful apple and pear flavors that are certainly mature but incredibly long and charming.

I haven't had this wine in quite a few years and once again it seemed more Rhone-like than Burgundian to me. Ultra ripe dense black fruit start with some licorice and woodsy spice. Big and firm structure is quite front-and-center, and took on even great prominence with more time in glass. I question how/when/where this wine will better integrate and resolve, no matter how much time it is cellared.

Open close to 2 hours before serving, this would have benefited from time in a decanter. Started with slightly backward cherry aromas and modest spice, both aspects opened up with more time in glass. Perhaps even a little reductive to start. With time, mostly black cherry flavors emerged with fairly good energy throughout. Last glass, 5+ hours after the bottle was opened, was the best.

Open and decanted approx 90 minutes before serving. Sensational aromatic start with incredible woodsy spice, perfume and red and black cherries. Aromas are so enticing that you would hardly notice if the wine had no flavors, but that is certainly not the case, with lots of cherry and spice with good density, and some sneaky acidity on the finish. The dining room was a bit on the warm side, which led to the wine being served at probably over 70°F, which made it come across as fleshier than reality, but that was a minor issue in this bottle's overall sensational experience.
Starts with great creme brulee character plus ripe as well as dried apricots. A bit monolithic, perhaps one-dimensional and less nuanced than some vintages of d'Yquem, but good balance and textures, great with dessert.

Bottle had noticeably low fill. Modest level of effervescence. Bready, yeasty with rather advanced fruit for its age.
