  • 2008 A.J. Adam Hofberg Riesling Spätlese 93 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

Another great showing. It's certainly quite ripe, packed with bright orange, apple and red fruited flavours tinged with more exotic floral notes, but beneath the fruit and sweetness there's a vivid saline and stony mineral base, fantastic acidity keeping it incredibly light and refreshing, and great length.

  • 2008 Thierry Allemand Cornas Reynard 95 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas

A much better showing than the bottle I enjoyed last year. The fragrance here is absolutely compelling and it's hard to move away from the glass here with an incredible perfume combining all sorts of high toned floral and spicy elements, more savoury earthy and meaty notes, and incredibly pure red and dark fruited flavours. Initially it's all about silken elegance on the palate with a gentle, very refined texture, though with more air it seems to close down a bit as the tannins become more noticeable on the back end and the fruit becomes less exuberant. Still, this is thrilling. Thanks Jeremiah.

  • 2007 Franz Hirtzberger Riesling Smaragd Singerriedel 95 Points

    Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau

Pretty much everything I'd expect a young Singerriedel to be. So flamboyant, spicy, fragrant and powerful with layers of ripe citrus and tropical fruits, flowers, spices, fresh herbs and stone minerality all coming together in a seamless package. It's very intense and concentrated on the palate, yet at the same time manages to convey a remarkable sense of lightness with great acidity beneath keeping it impeccably balanced, and the flavours keep resonating long after each sip. Stunning wine.
