Introduction
This is the 1st event organized by a group of friends who enjoy world-class wines and exuberant dishes. Each tasting is organized around a theme whether it be a wine region, grape varietal, or a particular cuisine. This 1st rendition was set to juxtapose Cabernet and Syrah in a blind tasting to entice each guest to guess the varietal and region and in this way further their understanding about the subtle flavors and textures of these two very well respected grape varietals. Appetizers were served to accompany the wines along with New Zealand Lamb chops in a mint sauce
1999 Château Cos d'Estournel 88 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Saint-Estèphe
deep red with a rusty edge, nose of tobacco, old oak and herbal tones, entry is a bit sharp and tannic, full body with tertiary tones but minimal fruit, finish is nice and medium. this wine is too intellectual for the amount of fruit it puts forth. it comes through as dry, tannic, and dusty.
Had expectations that the pedigree would impose on the vintage.

This bottle was flawed as everything was flat and had no flavors to it. What a shame.
