Flight 1 (8 Notes)
The Chapoutier was the best with room for improvement. The Janasse was a close but different 2nd. I would have to put the newcomer Burg as 3rd for drinking enjoyment now. Upset at the advanced nature of the Frescobaldi's but my theory on them changing their style for the BdM was supported.
Flight 2 - A couple extras (2 Notes)
Both were drunk entirely too young but were enjoyed nonetheless.
Closing
A good mix of wines. A couple new world wines made for good comparison to the normal bunch though they had trouble competing.
2004 Tenuta Col d'Orcia Brunello di Montalcino
Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Crimson red; some volatility at first which quickly blew off, funky nose of melted licorice, red fruit, and orange peel; sharp notes of vegetal, minerality, hard red fruit, sandy, cabbage; distinct textural difference from most BdM which I really like.

Dark core with bricking, looks like it has some age; soy, cedar, red fruit, rich, full, figgy, red currant, and drying tannin; tasted like a modern Barolo to me.

Darker color, reddish purple; black pepper and sweet oak, soft and sexy, mix of red and dark fruit; soft and Burgundian (that's where many guessed this was from), white pepper on palate, a hint of granite; delicious stuff, I feel it competes with some Cote Roties for sure.

2008 Columbia Crest Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

Very dark and extracted with legs that stain the glass; vanilla and coconut overshadow any other flavors, I guess there was some syrupy cassis underneath; really pent up with lots of dark fruit and glycerin; needed more air though not a fan of the strong American oak.

2nd bottle of the night served double blind; very dark core with light copper rim; some soy but rich fruit, cedar, a mix of red and dark fruit, lower acid, rich but tannin was not real strong; was on 2000 Barolo from modern producer; I can tell the '06 and '07 of this are very different styles (for the better) from this and prior vintages.

Dull garnet, translucent; salami, min, menthol, candy cane, sweet oak, autumnal red fruit showing a good bit of age but holding strong; soft, sexy, good sour cherry and sweetness; classic but modern, was on NSG with the candy cane but this seemed older ('05 or older); I would drink this earlier due to the poor vintage- it doesn't have a ton of stuffing.

Dark color showing some age on the rim; bitter cocoa, fig, bitter tart fruit, seaweed nori thing that was interesting, and hot stones; strong tart red fruit on the palate, classic CdP and very restrained for the vintage, just entering secondary phase and I believe this could go for a while longer; delicious; JD got this right as saying it was a top wine from the vintage...but score is way off.

Dark and dense color; plastic and some reductive notes on the nose along with vanilla; tart, plummy, graphite, camphor, some acid, really complex; not my style but not a bad example of Aussie Shiraz.
