  Ripe apple and pear aromas and flavors with moderate weight and density. Most faint spice hints, this really showcases fruit purity. Held up consistently over 2 hours.

• 2001 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses 90 Points

  France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

  Dark golden color. Slightly reductive to start. Within a few minutes this showed lush and ripe apple and apricot aromas. Similar on palate with good density. Wine started losing steam once open an hour, rapidly starting to show increased oxidation.

  Sensational aromatic start with mint, lemon peel and orange rind with great fruit intensity. Lush and powerful flavors with a lean edge taking over in the middle through to a long finish. Very impressive.

  Lots of citrus aromatic character with a hint of apple. Lots of power on palate, again showing good citrus, with very good acidity and textures. First time I recall trying this wine, very impressive.

  Lean and crisp lemon and lemon peel aromas and flavors. Very long, precise and exciting. Still getting better.

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

  Bright raspberry and strawberry aromas with savory spice hints. Same fresh and sweet fruit flavors again with impressive spice. Fairly ripe and concentrated, this is a rare Malconsorts showing so this well so young.

• 1955 Château Calon-Ségur 90 Points

  France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Saint-Estèphe

  Popped and poured. Black fruit well balanced with earthy, mushroom aromas and shiny of liqueur. Slightly more mushroomy flavors with good balance. Moderate depth and intensity, but lots of character and enough basic pleasure.

• 1955 Giacomo Conterno Barolo Riserva Monfortino Speciale 92 Points

  Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

  Typically pale color. Dried rose petal and dried cherry aromas with some licorice and moderate intensity. Earthy flavors witherite red fruit and moderate spice. Very charming and pretty, perhaps not the intensity or nuance I've had in some other great, older vintages of Monfortino. Of course this was just shipped to Chicago a couple of weeks ago, so might be better with a bit more time to settle down.
