Introduction

Thought we'd taste the 03 Taillepieds and Santenots side by side.

  • 2003 Domaine Roblet-Monnot Volnay 1er Cru Taillepieds 90 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

    Tonight both the Taillepieds and the Santenots needed every bit of 3 hours of double decanting to open. The Taillepieds was all dark fruit, tar and earth, brooding and rustic, with good depth and minerality and fairly firm tannins on the med length finish. Quite nice.

  • 2003 Domaine Roblet-Monnot Volnay 1er Cru Santenots 90 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

    Tonight both the Taillepieds and the Santenots needed every bit of 3 hours of double decanting to open. The Santenots was showing abit softer and rounder than the Taillepieds with red and dark fruit, earth and much more integrated tannins on the finish.

Closing

While both were very good, tonight I think I preferred the Santenots. They both had equal depth and heft, but the Santenots was abit less rustic.
