Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 2012 Domaine de la Pépière Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie 85 Points

France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie

Entirely different wine from the 2010 I tried the other year. This is much more elegant and less in your face yeasty. Fresh and simple and excellent as aperitif or with oysters.

  • 2009 Domaine Rolet Arbois Tradition Rouge 87 Points

    France, Jura, Arbois

Light, fine, has some energy and even a little grip. Not overy complex but fine.

  • 1996 Oddero Barolo 87 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

The bottle was just opened before being poured so perhaps with some more hours in a decanter this would have been a different experience. Strict, classic, cherry driven, decent if tight nose, was actually better on its own than with the food, although balanced and not lacking in scidity.

  • 2003 San Leonardo San Leonardo 90 Points

Italy, Trentino Alto-Adige / Veneto, Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT

Lovely, cab franc dominated nose, green and pure and elegant. Went very well with the piece de la resistance of the evening; the foie gras/truffle/brioche stuffed whole chicken.

  • 2011 Graci Etna Rosso 88 Points

    Italy, Sicily, Etna DOC

Wild and funky and very nice. Had much stronger legs than some other etna nerello mascalese that I have tasted. More structure - in a way expressing the nebbiolo like characteristics more than the pinot noir side (these two varietals seems to pop up often enough with these etna reds as comparators).
