Introduction

M/M thelostverse were celebrating their 26th anniversary and invited us to join them for dinner. The restaurant put together an excellent menu and we opened some really fun bottles. Happy anniversary m/m tlv, and thanks for sharing your evening with us.

Flight 1 - Amuse Bouche Trio (1 Note)

Artichokes, Hearts of Palm & Pickled Red Onion
Grilled Asian Eggplant with Gruyere & Rosemary
Duck Confit, Beets & Mushrooms

  • NV Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée 93 Points

    France, Champagne

We drank this out of Cabernet/red wine stems with a large bowl. It was the first wine poured and one of the last that I finished. Opened with citrus, lemon, apple and marzipan qualities. Evolves over the course of the eening to brioche, cashew, hazelnut and ginger. Long finish. Lovely. 93-94 pts.

Flight 2 - Appetizer

Tasting of Seared Foie Gras.
Brioche, Walnut & Apple
Pickled Kiwi & Greens
Fig & Bacon
And I cannot recall the last preparation, but suffice to say that it was tough picking out a favorite of the four. Portions were large with the intent that we would get a couple of bites and be able to pass.

Flight 3 - Soup (2 Notes)

Lobster Bisque Cappuccino

  • 1995 Blain-Gagnard Bâtard-Montrachet Flawed

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru

Suffered from a bit of oxidation. With some underlying stone and citrus notes this was drinkable, but paled in comparison to a bottle opened in May.

  • 2007 Varner Chardonnay Spring Ridge Vineyard Bee Block 94 Points

    USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains

Pale color. Aromas of butterscotch, vanilla, pear, melon and minerals. Terrific weight on the palate with flavors of white fruit and apple, pear, florals, citrus and coconut. Long, balanced finish. Developed a wonderful Meyer lemon creme brulee note. Has good underlying acidity and a lingering finish. Just gorgeous- go find yourself some of this. Thanks thelostverse!

  • 1987 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon 94 Points

    USA, Washington

Opened by m/m thelostverse at their anniversary dinner. Deep opaque inky crimson color with no bricking. Aromas of blackberry, cassis and kirsch liqueur give way to leather and plum notes. Medium tannins, with blackberry, plum and chocolate flavors. Constantly evolving in the glass, the bouquet displayed lavender, licorice, violets and tobacco over the couple of hours it was open. Maintained wonderful balance, with flavors of licorice and black fruit. Showing very well with wonderful depth and complexity. 94-95 pts.

  • 1984 Dominus Estate 94 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Popped & poured, followed over a couple of hours. Aromas of black currants, tobacco, florals, red currants, saddle leather and sandalwood. Fully-integrated and well-balanced. Red currant, sandalwood, cherry, and leather notes. Soft and elegant. Develops herb, iron and red berry qualities. Long finish. Where the QC was masculine and powerful, this is soft and elegant. Terrific. 94+ pts.
