Introduction

As part of our 20th anniversary celebrations we used (abused more like it) the corkarage policy of the fantastic The Square in London ( www.squarerestaurant.com/) to ahve a little 1993 celebration.

Flight 1 - To Start (1 Note)

  • 1993 Henri Giraud Champagne Grand Cru Fût De Chêne Brut Vintage Aÿ 92 Points

    An experience! Much like the de Vogue Musigny Blanc 1993 we had after this very special ineed.
    Dark golden in could shows the age well. Glossy. On the nose it super rich with light oxidised notes and ripe fruit , yeasty and full. Similarly it carries on like this on the palatewith a fully matury, nutty feel, rich and long with a lot of depth. This is less of a champagne and more or a mature white wine. Bubbles are still there btw. Probably a better pairing is with cheese rather than as an aperitif! 91-92

Flight 2 - With the Tasting Menu (2 Notes)

  • 1993 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Blanc 93 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru

    An experience to say the least! ( Photo uploaded too). Good colour, shows the age , dark gold core. Glossy though, vibrant. The nose is full of nutty, hazelnut notes to start and as it developed int he glass it showed a few oxitative edges but the richness of the wine kept these in check. Mineral, and full of character, elegant and alive. A touch short on the finish. A bit of a marmite conundrum here (akin to Rhone Whites) , love it or hate it we would guess... We loved it 92-93

  • 1993 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 95 Points

    We shoudl have decanted for a little bit as it took its time to hits its stride but this gem of a wine did not fail to put the sparkle in our anniversary dinner.
    Colour shows its age with decent brinking on the rim. The nose is full of red fruit, stawberries and thent he earthy tones hit to complete the symphony. On the palate it feels very much alive, well evolved and secondary yes but also firm and vibrant with good tannin and depth.Granted the nose is better than the palate but still lots of OMG moments here. 94-95
