Introduction
Barolos were the highlight of the night. With a traditional style 1962 Barolo (CAN YOU BELIEVE THE AGE!) v.s. the more modern style of the highly acclaimed Luciano Sandrone Barolo Cannubi Boschis 2003. The Luciano Sandrone Barolo Cannubi Boschis 2001 is the 6th Apostle in the popular wine comic "Drops of God". The 1990 Luciano Sandrone Barolo Cannubi Boschis also received a perfect 100 points from Robert Parker.

1962 Giorgio Carnevale Barolo 92 Points

The oldest wine I have ever drank so far. Light ruby colour.
Strong cassis aroma. Soy sauce also on the nose.
Slight vegetal hint on the entry which soon gave way to a ripe body of raisins. Very much like choya and port. Saltiness towards the long lingering finish. Amazing that this still offers some alcohol heat after 51 years!

2003 Luciano Sandrone Barolo Cannubi Boschis 93 Points

Deep garnet hue. Poured into decanter to air for 3 hours.
Wonderfully complex nose that managed to be fragrantly perfumed flowers and fruity apple and blueberry at the same time.
Heady explosion of sweet dark fruits on the palate. Cassis, blueberries, strawberries. An intense wine asking for some serious attention. Massive chalky tannins. Long finish.
This wine needs time in the cellar. The complexity bodes very well for the future. Patience will be rewarded. Sigh looks like I will have to keep my 2005, and 2006 for a long long time...

2000 Louis Jadot Santenay Clos de Malte 84 Points

Very interesting nose of cantaloupe and papaya aromas. But the going was downhill thereafter. Oaken entry, smooth mid-palate but lacking in flavours. Some salty seaweed towards the finish which was short and abrupt.
