Introduction

Sam brought the wines, I tasted double blind.

  • 2010 Barão de Vilar Dão Proeza 86 Points

    Portugal, Beiras, Dão

    Decanted, tasted double blind. Needed a bit of air to get going. A garnet red wine with a hint of browning on the edges. Quite a bit of vanillary oak on the nose, red berries, quite elegant. Some tannins, red berries on the palate, not a very strong wine, but quite enjoyable.

  • 2011 Casa Catelli Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 85 Points

    Italy, Abruzzi, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

    Decanted, tasted double blind. A very dark purple wine. Lots of vanillary oak, lots of cassis, very expressive and fruity on the nose. A very young wine on the palate, lots of fruit, lots of tannins, not sweet, enjoyable. Definitely old world in style.

Closing

A bonus wine was brought in by Esa, home made with grapes grown in Finland! It was a very porty wine, interesting.
