Meeting Tim Mondavi

What a great time. I was able to finally head up Pritchard Hill to find Continuum and what a beautiful view. My wife and I were able to walk the vineyard and take a polaris atv from the lake house to the new winery, which is still under construction. We got to meet and talk with the assistant winemaker and while I was talking with her I noticed Tim Mondavi. Tim came right over introduced himself and we talked wine. I told him that the 2007 Continuum is the wine that changed my perspective on wine and made me a cork dork. He amazing to talk to and he just talked to my wife and I like he'd known us his whole life. He then asked if I wanted to try some candy and I replied "Heck yeah." He took a glass and asked if I'd mine sharing with him, of which I said "of course not," and then he looked at my wife and asked her playfully if she had every shared a glass with me. ha. What a guy. He took some halfway fermented 2013 Continuum and we shared to amazing juice between the three of us. Having Tim discuss it and tell me exactly what he thought and what he was looking for in the wine was surreal. What an amazing experience and something I'll remember forever.

  I loved this wine. Continuum is the wine that did it for me years ago. This was the gateway into the world of wine for me and to see the vineyard and walk the soil was amazing. My boots are covered in red dirt as are my wife's feet (told her not to wear open toe shoes) and it was amazing. Even better as I was viewing the property and the new winery I was able to meet with Tim Mondavi. And if that wasn't awesome enough I was able to sample the 2013 Continuum from the fermentation tank after it was halfway fermented. I shared a glass with my wife and Tim directly from the tank. He asked if I wanted to taste some candy and I happily said yes. He was extremely proud of it and it was amazing. Sweet candied fruit. Layers of depth already and Tim talked about the amazing vintage and what this wine would be. Truly a treat. Back to the tasting however. Beautiful black fruit, with plum, fig, anise and black cherry. Hints of mocha, tobacco and some earthy soil tones. Really big but beautiful. This is a Ferrari. Sexy, and sleek and bursting with power. Holy cow, this will be amazing. Long lingering finish. This should cellar for two decades easily.
