  • 2006 Pierre Gimonnet & Fils Champagne Premier Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut Fleuron 93 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru

    Wow! Lovely nose off the bat! Very rich style with scents of brown sugar, brioche, marzipan, dough, hints of honewdew melon and coffee with plenty of freshness. Palate displays lots of mousse, roundness and length carried on a long marzipan and honeydew finish. Excellently measured dosage. Rich nose crisp plate. Beautifully done.

  • NV Varnier-Fanniere Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut 90 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

    I found this champagne to lean more to the tight, lean, mineral side of things. Slate, steeley, lemon merangue pie, perfume. Palate is fairly linear and straightforward. Pleasant, but lacking in excitement.

  • NV Varnier-Fanniere Champagne Grand Cru Cuvée St-Denis 90 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

    A slight step up from the Varnier-Fanniere Brut Grand Cru, but very similar in style. Slate, steel, candied lime. Quite fresh with some white flowers. Finishes a tad bitter and sour with lime zest. Felt a but young to my palate.

    I found this bottle a tad mute on the nose. But clean, fresh and generally correct. Similarly on the palate it's clean and fresh but not giving much complexity, richness or interest for me.

  • NV Gosset Champagne Grand Rosé Brut 91 Points

    France, Champagne

    Pours very pale and light. Initial funky almost garlicky nose quickly blows off to reveal fresh baked strawberry tart, marzipan, strawberry yogurt, and confectioners sugar. Palate is fairly rich and round leading to perhaps slightly lower perceived acid. Finish is fairly long carried on biscuit and confectioners sugar.

  • 1998 Gosset Champagne Célebris 89 Points

    Here we have perhaps a bit of a controversial wine. It is evident on the nose that this is quite oxidative, much more than a champagne of this age should be. I'm not particularly a fan of heavy oxidation in my champagne so this wasn't my cup of tea. Evidently it features the darkest color in the lineup. Nose is of toasted walnuts and in the background there is citrus fruit and some pastry notes. Palate repeats nutty notes and transitions to a citrus peel finish which is just a bit short.

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits-Saint-Georges

    Very nice, appealing nose of cherry, pomegranate, brown spice, thyme, coriander, earth, and cured meat. Palate enters sweet and turns earthy with a fairly lengthy finish. Perhaps lacking in structure so definitely an early drinker.

  • 2010 Faiveley Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Porêts Saint-Georges 90 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru

    Nose is less pronounced on this wine with a matchstick/sulfur note and abundant red fruit. Palates features some spice notes and has plenty of fresh acid on the cherry pit finish. Structured. 90 today with the potential to pick up a few points. Wait on this one.

  • 2010 Faiveley Beaune 1er Cru Clos de l'Ecu 89 Points

    A little more simple and mineral driven than the rest. You really need to light them lean and light to appreciate this. Delicate nose with some floral and grapefruit nuances. Palate is very light and clean. Correct but felt a bit simple for my palate.

  • 2010 Faiveley Clos Vougeot 93 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

    Very nice! Nose is loaded with cherry and dried cranberries, loads of spice, cola, earth, beef and anise. Very complex and attractive. Palate is dense, with a long cola tinged finish. Should integrate and improve.

  • 2011 Faiveley Corton-Clos des Cortons Faiveley 93 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

    Another complex nose full of brown and exotic spices. Perhaps a little less giving than the 2010 Clos de Vougeot and showing the tough nature of Corton, but the potential is obviously there. Tons of red licorice and some salene notes on the nose. Palate is firm and dryingly tannic. Muscular. 93 today, however it should improve.

  • 2005 Château Haut-Bages Libéral 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

    Enjoyable nose that is lavishly oaked and not as closed as I feared it might be. Vanilla, Caramel, pyrazines, dark berry fruit. I was expecting massive tannins on the palate but to my surprise I found them quite silky and ripe. Should really morph into something nice given a few more years. Too primary for my palate today.

    Clean and straightforward. Very dark in colour. Nose of raisins, prunes, blue licorice, alcohol. Palate is rich and mouthfilling with a touch of heat. Is it well made? Yes. Do I like the style? No.

    nose is musky, with loads of honey, florals and a hint of spearmint. Actually quite stunning and wild aromatics. Palate enters very sweet but nicely transitions to something more dry on the mid palate and finishes with abundant acid. Well made and attractive.

  • 2010 Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Brand Vieilles Vignes 93 Points

    France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru

    Classic expressive nose of petrol, lime zest, lemon juice, and slate. Palate enters quite sweet and turns much more dry and tight on the finish. Finish is remarkably long. 93 today with potential to improve.

  • 2010 Zind-Humbrecht Gewurztraminer Vieilles Vignes Vendange Tardive 92 Points

    Very nice nose of candied mango and pineapple, baked apples, lychee, and rose petals. Palate is very sweet, moderately viscous with a long pineapple finish carried on plenty of acid. My preference is usually for something just a tad more viscus, but the quality and complexity here is outstanding, especially for the price.
