Introduction

Tomas brought the wines, I tastede double blind.

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2008 Antonin Rodet Maranges 1er Cru Les Clos Roussots Château de Mercey 89 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Maranges 1er Cru

    Decanted, tasted double blind. A very light red with clear browning on the edge. A very elegant wine on the nose, fine red berries, a hint of beetroot and with time nice perfumey aromas. The palate was quite acidic, very elegant, fine cranberry, and rather tasty, very little tannins. This was a really nice wine, although one would have to have it with very mild foods to appreciate it. Easy Bourgogne double blind.

  • 2011 Château Kajmád Szekszárdi Szekszárdi Cuvée 88 Points

    Hungary, Dél-Pannónia, Szekszárdi

    Decanted, tasted double blind. A dark red, almost black. A very strong wine, lots of dark fruit, blackberries, some vanilla. The palate was also very strong, eucalyptus, lots of fruit, but not sweet. This could use a few more years on it, but it is very good now as well. Would need strong food to go with.

Closing

A rather contrasting pair, the Hungarian wine overwhelming the Burgundy. I liked them both though!
