    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru

    Showed a nice orange rim, it had a good nose, showing firm tannins and acidity was still there. A wonderful drink, certainly inthe top tiers of burgundy I've had.

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

    Wow... a hedonistic nose, I could have kept sniffing this for the rest of the evening, tannins had mellowed and there was a good balance of acidity. Absolutely awesome. Despite the other wines, it stood out well.

    Classic Haut Brion nose, good bricking in the glass, you certainly can smell the pencil shavings. Enormous length on the palate, smooth silky finish. Wow; utterly outstanding. I never thought I would taste a perfect bottle like this, I have to give this full marks; how could anything be better in this style?

    Dark red in the glasss, not much bricking; good nose of fruit and soft tannins, a hint of acidity and good integration of fruit. Just not up to the mark compared to the rest of the flight.

Flight 3 - 3rd flight - Glazed suckling pig, smoked creamed potatoes, chargrilled leeks and roasting juices (4 Notes)

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru

    Heavy orange bricking in the glass, very slightly cloudy; a lovely nose, complex and smooth on the palate. This was showing extremely well tonight.

    Medium bricking in the glass, a lovely nose and step up from the 89 Potel. A touch of sweetness on the edges, a fantastic wine.

    Slight bricking in the glass, a heavy nose of pencil shavings. A solid palate and good complexity, but nothing really special, it is a good drink but in the company of the other wines didn't stand out.

    Very slight bricking in the glass with a medium nose of fruits. This wine seemed somehow confused compare to the other wines tasted. It didn't have much of a defined character, just good in all places.

Flight 4 - 4th flight - Slow roast short rib and chargrilled ribeye of beef with marrow, scorched onions and field mushrooms (4 Notes)

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

    Orange bricking clearly evident in the glass, a lovely nose; a good blend of fruit and acidity on the palate a slight touch of tannin still present. A wonderful example of mature burgundy.

    A phenomenal colour, almost pure orange, a nose of pure burgundy with tertiary smells and flavours showing well. No tannins present (although my palate must have been pretty battered by this point) and tasted great

    Dark red, slight bricking in the glass; pencil lead on the nose and a slight farmyard. The wine had a good backbone of acidity and tannin. A nice drink.

    Medium dark red with good bricking visible in the glass. A lovely nose of forest fruits. Is this 50 years old?? Really?? Hard to believe this wine has lasted so well. Wonderful.
