Flight 1 (4 Notes)

  • 1994 Château La Fleur de Gay 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Ruby with clear rim. Really good nose, minerals, violet, currants, blue fruits, blood, stem, tobacco and herbal notes near the back. But palate is less accomplished than the nose, there are tobacco leaf and cherry notes, although silky, acidity and green notes quickly took over the senses. Perhaps due to the vintage?

  • 1999 Château La Conseillante 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Ruby core with pinkish rim in appearance. Quite shy up front and not revealing much. With some effort, aromas of blueberry, rustic, floral, earth gradually came out. Palate is quite nice, round, velvety, nice touch of black fruits, wet wood, cigar and minerals. Tannins are quite soft actually, there are red fruit juice, light tobacco in the finish, if only it could last longer. The 1999 is ready, but do give it some aeration time.

  • 1995 Vieux Château Certan 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Saw some TN from others and it seems this wine could be quite inconsistent, so I guess I'm lucky that the bottle just tried came up rather nicely. Fascinating nose, with layers of floral, minerals, blue fruits, violet, damp earth, mushroom and some herbal scent. It gives a warm, comforting feeling to the taster. Rich, balanced on the palate, blue and red fruits, earth, plum notes, silky and lush mouth feel. Very fine tannins, softened already but it has a touch of grippy feel to it which is nice. Long finish, plum meat, cigar smoke and floral notes. A satisfying tasting indeed.

  • 1999 Pétrus 97 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

First time ever trying a Petrus, don't think I can give it a proper score, but this wine is truly something else. The wine was decanted for about four hours, when it was poured into the glass, in the first sniff, there are rich notes of truffle, floral, blue fruits, then gradually, fresh berries, sweet prune, cherries, like a fruit garden. Then with some more time in the glass, mineral notes, leather, crushed stem, cocoa coming out. Palate is extremely soothing and makes you feel like just wanting to lay down and chill under the sun in a green garden next to a pool. Its unique, soft, gentle, yet solid mouth feel, dense, silky, with blueberry, smoke and earthy notes in between. Very long finish, expansive, coating your mouth with truffle, wood, berries and smoke. Really special indeed.
