Introduction

With much anticipation, we met up at Tani and started enjoying ourselves.
Very simple, following the golden rule of ample preparation.
Chef and madame were also well prepared and allowed for a fabulous evening.
There are many reasons why we keep returning to this restaurant :-)

Flight 1 - Wines served in order (4 Notes)

Most fantastic finding was how the Red Burg was obliterated by a thin slice of grilled chèvre...
Other than that wine, we really enjoyed ourselves.
Great food, wine, service and discourse.

  • 2007 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

Compelling and fantastic, but not enough for what I expect from Fèvre's GC, especially not their Vaudésir. Rhit gets it right in his TN here.
    Light yellow.
Sharp, edgy Chard nose with small oak notes and slight minerality.
In the mouth this strikes me as a very intense small dog, not quite understanding there are large dogs out there. Lime aromas and lime-intense acidity over seaside mineral components in the start. From mid-palate and onwards, fatty goat cheese with oak enter the stage and rule the aftermath.
Unfortunately rather thin, but married tonight's fish-dish completely. It's great with wines that deliver :-)
One of the least impressive Fèvre GC of my life. Still f-ing good.
Shall live long and we do wish for acids to mellow and the goat cheese components to dissipate as the minerality of this wine can be allowed to strech their beautiful legs. Will require long cellaring...
    小杉先生 liked it.

  • 2008 Fernand & Laurent Pillot Pommard 1er Cru Clos de Verger 84 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru

Awesome nose of Burgy oak, PN fruit and face plant M++ acidic and watery palate. Without its M tannins, it would have been dismissed for sauce.
The fruit is pure and incredibly appealing. But the wine was murdered by the first starter's grilled Chèvre.
It's difficult to assess these emo wines in a positive way...
Reading other TN's here, we think Zweder got it pretty much right and that Rhabolin stumbles over his own words in typical Burgheads' excuses for obvious short comings and missing features as if they were actually included in the delivery...
Quite ok wine for mild foods like tofu, boiled vegetables or grits.
Should develop some more interesting features with age, but the exaggerated acids will always be a handicap for this wine.
Only drank well by itself and with the salad components in tonight's fabulous dinner.
    小杉先生 enjoyed this wine.

  • 2010 La Bastide Blanche Bandol 91 Points

    France, Provence, Bandol

Spectacular wine and great showing after many hours of preparatory decant.
Still too young, but almost impossible to not enjoy. 4th btl devoured and now only 11 to go... How do we go about it to have at least one btl left when it's mature some time close to 2030?
Nothing to add to previous notes, only an underline that this is GREAT juice! Ya-hoo :-)
    小杉先生 liked it very much.

  • 2006 Tardieu-Laurent Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Spéciale 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

The wonders of restrained Grenache in the hands of great wine makers cannot be over estimated. This is FABULOUS juice. (Fantastic to think this is the worst of our TL wines in the cellar. Promises great future encounters :-) Not at all jammy, even if first whiffs upon opening seemed to suggest that. M+ acids and M++ tannins, well masked by strong Grenache fruit. Restrained! Yay!
Like eating raspberries as you are walking around in La Garrigue on an early summer's day... Fabulous and in its early drinking window.
Two more to go. Won't live too long, so next one in ~2016.
小杉先生 loved it as much as we did :-)

Closing

Two-three glasses of wine remained in each bottle, making for a very fine time for chef and madame. Surely they enjoyed also :-)
