  • 2006 Hiedler Weissburgunder Maximum 92 Points

    Austria, Niederösterreich, Kamptal

    (10/20/2013)

Excellent - rich, balanced and complex in a high alcohol and powerful style. A large scaled wine with big bones. Aging very well with great depth of flavor and textbook rich and nuance pinot blanc aromas and flavours. Drinks well now but under stelvin should continue to improve for another decade in a cool cellar. Excellent.

  • 1993 Stonyridge Vineyard Larose 91 Points

New Zealand, North Island, Auckland, Waiheke Island

    (10/19/2013)

On opening, an immaculate nose of cedar, blackcurrant and capsicum in a Bordeaux/Loire style. Medium body with firm tannin and clear acid balance. Very good length with a cedary and earthy finish. Outstanding wine that could (in this format and condition) certainly develop a further 10 years, at least. A class act from an excellent vintage for Stonyridge. As a wine, fascinating as it straddles old school NZ cabernet style with the rather more ripe and fleshy styles that are being produced today. A bottle that has developed positive nuance with 20 years of age.

  • 1998 Henschke Shiraz Mount Edelstone 87 Points

Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Eden Valley

    (10/20/2013)

Quite farmyard and coconut - a more interesting and complex showing for this wine. Certainly showing age but also showing reasonable transformative complexity. While not an outstanding wine, this particular bottle certainly delivered interesting favors and a good level of enjoyment. With cheese.

Closing

The Henschke was opened for an impromptu French cheese course of Comte, Brie and Onetek Basque Blue.
