Medium yellow. Ripe pear aromatics. Funny wine in that it is all gorgeous texture and little in the way of flavor. Very neutral in the mouth with average acidity and good length. I wonder how much Pinot Blanc there is in the cepage.

Ruby. Ripe dark cherry with some char. Moderate weight, ripe but not overripe, a dose of soil, then prominent vanillin from oak which gives it a slightly astringent finish.

Pale. Attractive combination of high toned perfume and soil. Lighter weight with some wood underpinning. Serious and young, balanced in a way that showcases the earth more than light, faded strawberry fruit. High acidity, shorter finish. This could benefit from more bottle aging.

Light with browning edge. Lightly gamey nose. Then light, a bit of earth and basically no palate presence or flavor beyond that. Nothing-I've had poor Bourgognes that have had more to them than this village wine.

Medium ruby. Meaty aromatics with some graphite and black fruit. Some initial flesh on the entry, then dark, brooding, muscular, seriously tannic wine with a lot of grip at the end. This was kind of a shock right after the completely insubstantial Pacalet. As I almost always find myself saying when tasting Gouges wines, give it time-lots and lots of time. Then, when you think you've given it enough time, give it another 10 years!

After a false start with one corked bottle, this had a lighter red color and very pretty floral aromatics. Medium body, prominent acidity, good Nuits mix of black cherry and some earth. Linear and not very charming at present. I am mildly encouraged by the aromatic development and the presence of some fruit that is mostly in the background now . However, I'm not convinced about its balance going forward. Having said that, there is really is no choice other than to hold onto your bottles for another 5 or 10 years and see whether they soften and flesh out because they are certainly not enjoyable in their current state.
