Introduction

Jean François Ganevat manage the family estate , ten hectares only. Few weeks before our meeting some French Journalist have hawarded one of his cuvée the best in France. We had the chance to taste this 2011 vintage, just bottled. A difficult exercise of appreciation. Of course the wine is closed, "in black and white", showing only structure and balance. Experienced people know that wine tasting is subjectiv. So to rate and elect a wine between others some conditions of blind tasting should be observed.
Mr Ganevat feals very detached of this rusching. Rotalier is a quite place to let the show go on.

Flight 1 (7 Notes)

Grusse en billat 2011
Vines planted in 1960. Schiste soil. Superb nose of kiwi, melon juice, and lemon syrup. Mouth far more muted, dry, yeasty and peppery. No sulphites. Some residual gaz is noticeable.

En Chalasse vieilles vignes 2011
Vines planted in 1902. Marl soil. Nose more muted than the Grusse en Billat, stil with a bit of kiwi, a touch of attic ? Mouth slender, mineral, very yeasty.

Grand teppes vielles vignes 2011
Vines planted in 1919. Nose closed, very reduciv. Mouth with a strong structure, thick, spicy and almost rocky. Some keffir juice.

Les vignes de mon pere 2003
Just bottled after ten years in cask. Very fine juice, thin structure, long after taste (without color for the moment).Perfect balance. Superb.

savagnin cuvée prestige 2009.
Casked under veil. An oxydatif wine with nice wall nut flavours, prunes eau-de-vie. Mouth like limestone, very mineral, chalky. But very long after taste. My favorite.

Vin Jaune 2005
Wih the same style than the Prestige 2009, but more silky, more refined. The same oxydative perfumes with orange peal, "schweppes" bitterness and a specific ether vapors. Superb structure. Built to last.

Vieux Macvin 2004
Sweat wine, made naturaly, fermentation stopped with a grape marc. Very interesting nose of christmas cinnamon cake, pine board freshly cutted, cumin and walnut. Mouth sweat, (grade 4 according to Zind-Humbrecht rating scale), peaty, and a little hot as a whiskey. A nice fortified wine, mostly with brown colors. Usefull for winter in Canadian Rockies.
