Hi-Time Wine Cellar

Advertised as highly allocated, limited availability wines. We were a little disappointed in the lineup, as the wines weren't THAT hard to find, but a relatively interesting lineup for $40.
1996 Duval-Leroy Champagne Grand Cru Femme de Champagne 90 Points
France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
Pale gold/clear color. Nose of apples and citrus, slightly candied. On the palate, nice citrus/acidity balance, very crisp. Very nice champagne, but I definitely prefer the Blanc de Chardonnay for half the price.

Tasted from magnum. Pale/clear color. Expressive citrusy nose. On the palate, nice fruit/acidity balance - little of the melted butter notes. Very "edgy" chardonnay. Medium length finish.

2003 Relic Wines Syrah Alder Springs Vineyard 88 Points
USA, California, North Coast, Mendocino County
Dark purple color. Nose of dark fruit and earth. On the palate, similar notes of dark fruits, surprisingly smooth tannins for such a young wine. Slightly bitter, medium finish.

2001 Chappellet Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill Estate Vineyard 93 Points

Dark purple color. Expressive, open nose. On the palate, lots of pure, concentrated fruit, with notes of berries and a spiciness. Long finish - tannic, but not overpowerful. I really liked this cab.

1999 Beringer Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Rancho del Oso Vineyard 89 Points
USA, California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain
Tasted from two different bottles. First one opened for several hours, second one opened and poured immediately. Nose in first glass of plums and distinct nose of coffee grounds. Second glass not surprisingly much less expressive, with notes of earth and a little "barnyard." In the mouth, nice structure and feel, but there is a green streak throughout, including in the finish. Clearly a well made wine - concentrated, pure fruit, but seems to be lacking a little ripeness.

2000 Taylor (Fladgate) Porto Vintage 93 Points
Portugal, Douro, Porto
Dark purple/black in color. Nose of sweet, dark raisiny fruit. On the palate, alcohol initially overpowering, but seems to integrate in the mouth, as the fruit, alcohol and sweetness all mesh together to give the wine a long, powerful, and relatively balanced finish. Clearly too young, but glad to taste it in this format.
