    A 3 hour decant. Green bell pepper and strawberry on the nose. Good complexity. Builds in the glass. The finish becomes more powerful with time. The flavors evolve and change with time, but sadly this faded significantly after about an hour in the glass. 91 at its peak.

  • 1985 Château Palmer 92 Points

    3 hour decant. A great vegetal nose of earth, tar, wet mushroom and some barnyard. Nice integrated tannins that are still there. Smoke on the nose and palate. A small pour held up well for a couple hours.

  • 1985 Château Margaux 94 Points

    A 4 hour decant. Sweet red bell pepper, savory red fruit and spice on the nose. Lush complex taste of red fruit on a charred earth backbone. There's a lot going on here, but to quibble, a little too much bell pepper.

  • 1995 Château Margaux 93 Points

    A 4 hour decant. Not as nice as the 1985 Margaux, but cut from the same cloth. A leaner palate, slightly more vegetal. I'd like to try this with a little more age because I felt that this wine had not completely come together yet. I kept swirling and sipping my tasting pour trying to figure this wine out, and I failed.

  • 2000 Château Rauzan-Ségla 91 Points

    A 4 hour decant. Burnt rubber, bubble gum, forest floor (pine dominated), some ripe red fruit comes out of the nose after a lot of swirling. Palate is more vegetal and spicy, yet still has plenty of fruit. The vegetal qualities increased with time. Slight vanilla oak that is subdued.

    A 4 hour decant. Meaty and in-your-face nose. The palate is lively. Rounc and rich, nice fruit, some black licorice (once someone else brought it to my attention). A bit austere, still enjoyable. In fact, I like this a lot at this price.

  • 2000 Château Malescot St. Exupéry 91 Points

    A 5 hour decant. This has a lovely Margaux nose of roses, red fruit, spice and leather. The palate is quite bold with black licorice and raspberry. Large tannins that are not out of line for this wine. Nose is a 94, taste is a 91.

  • 1988 Château d'Yquem 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

    A quick decant. Lots of honeysuckle, apicots, peaches, and spice. Tons going on. Great botrytis complexity and spice. Great acidity. The mouthfeel is rich and filling, but it never turns cloying or over the top. This is the first time I've ever had an Yquem and it was the best Sauternes I've ever had.
