70% Garganega, 30% Trebbiano. Aged in the cellars at Le Calandre. The merest hint of cork taint but too faint and evanescent to send it back. Intense colour, correct for age; deep but subtle nose, ripe grapes, herbs and minerals, hint of spicy honey; the palate is ripe and mature but balanced and exciting owing to its freshness and minerality, lovely grapefuit note; a slight lack of aromatic persistence indicates that this wine is now fully mature. An amazing performance at almost 20 years of age.

Very fresh colour, just a hint of browning at the rim; the deep nose has notes of leather and red meat around a core of fresh red fruit and spice, just a hint of older wood; the palate is rich and quite tannic but well-balanced and fresh, with a stuffing of bright red fruit, energetic, slightly rustic but not affected by the heat; very good length.

From Monforte d'Alba. Very open and attractive nose, sweet fruit, hint of sous-bois; supple and sweet fruit on the palate but with inimitable tannic grip, classic Barolo-style but relatively user-friendly, not profound but with a lovely freshness and balance; good length.
