Definitely a noticeable development on the nose. Very soft entry that is slightly linear at first but broadens out just a little to sweet cassis notes with sour dark cherries. Medium (-) clean cut finish of slight thyme and herbs. Definitely richer in style. The wine may not seem like it's at its peak for now, perhaps there're some years to go (88-90)
The 2003 Château Kirwan is dark garnet in colour and easily the star of the flight in terms of pleasure and value. A good depth on the nose with a lot of character - fresh nose of clean forest floor, sweet black currents and black forest cake with a dark cherry core. Pretty integrated on the nose which makes it hard to rip apart and explain its nuances individually.
A very soft supple roundness upon entry as the foresty cherries broadens and playfully coats the palate. Tannins are almost velvety and super smooth on the palate. Medium to medium(+) finish with a little back end spice. Undeniable gently woodiness that is well-balanced, providing a charming elegance in the wine. Great stuff.
The 2005 Château Kirwan is dense purple in colour with a nose of fragrant crushed black currants. A gentle crisp nose makes its freshness absolutely pleasant. There's also a noticeable underlying mineralty of wet rocks on the nose.
Very crisp and cool entry with a mineral freshness and slight mint before its fruit flavours of crushed blackcurrants slowly creeps over. Tannins are firm and structured that gives good character in the wine, without being overpowering or unpleasant. A medium (+) finish of playful liquorice Lots of years ahead for sure with its young, fresh and frontal flavours. (91-92)
2008 was a tough year for Chateau Kirwan with its hail - resulting in a lost of 30% of the crop. Vicious weather indeed with the lack of heat over summer and an irregular weather in September.

The 2008 Château Kirwan is medium (+) in colour with a bouquet of black berries, fruity sweetness, dark black cherries that layers over oak spice. Pretty "typical Bordeaux" (if that's an adjective) on the nose. An initial entry of subtle black currants and black berries before a quick 'burst' throughout the palate of juiciness. Round and supple mid-palate. Some freshness in the wine undeniably. Tannins are not too grippy with a medium (-) finish of a little back end playful liquorice. Fresh clean cut acidity. Straight-forward structure that is enjoyable and pretty quaffable. (88-89)
The 2008 Kirwan is a blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc and 15% Petit Verdot. Noticeable effort for the tough vintage.
