Introduction
Yesterday, a bunch of us got together to share some wine. The main purpose was to share some of our allocations from mailing lists, but a lot of wines were opened casually.
2011 Myriad Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 92 Points
USA, California, Napa Valley
Purple in color. The nose is nice with leather and cassis. Very balanced. Nice rich texture. The palate is firm. Drinks well but did improve with an hour or so of air.

2010 Cayuse Syrah En Chamberlin Vineyard 94 Points
USA, Oregon, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley
Earthy, damp/dank and black raspberries on the nose. Medium bodied. Smooth. Slight heat on the finish. I thought this would be a massive wine, but it is not. Very good and well made. The nose was a bit controversial in the crowd. That damp note was pleasurable to some and off putting to others. I am told this is a common note in these wines.

2011 Sine Qua Non The Moment 93 Points

Light gold/green in color. The nose is very tight with a waxy component. Lemons come out with air. Oily texture. Very smooth and easy to drink. Full bodied but not over the top in any way. Should age well.

Tight on the nose. Opens up though with black raspberries, and a sweaty quality. Juicy acidity. Black raspberries. Some heat on the finish.

An oldie but a goody. I drank a lot of these back in the day. A nose of cedar, black raspberries and dust. Almost Bordeaux-like. Complex on the palate. Nice texture. Still nice fruit left.

2010 Domaine Saint-Damien Gigondas Vieilles Vignes Les Souteyrades 92 Points

The nose is lighter than most on the table and it takes a bit of readjusting. It is dusty with black currants and spice. Some cigar tobacco. The palate is black cherries and some green tobacco (in a good way). Nice finish. Ripe but not over done.

This is different and so not for everyone. 17.7%Alc. Cherries and raisins on the nose. Black cherries on the palate. No heat anywhere on the wine, but it is a bit raisined. Almost port like but dry. Interesting. A small taste was enjoyable but plenty.

This is really nice. Still young. Nice raspberries, florals and spice on the nose. Lots of black raspberries and iodine on the palate. Complex but tightly packed. Great texture.

Leather, iodine and black raspberries on the palate. Great texture, but there is a lot of heat and the fruit seems shut down or faded right now. Lacking cohesion to be great. Certainly a good solid wine, but I would want more. Others seemed to like it more than I.

Interesting nose of raspberries, a bit gamey and floral notes. Great texture. Tart cherries on the palate which I really liked. Woke my palate up and was really delicious. Not under ripe just tart. Like to revisit this in a year and it seems to have all the stuffing, but not unwinding now. Still, great to drink right now too.

2011 Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape Deus-Ex Machina 95 Points

Really nice. Boy is this tight. Still there is some really nice blueberries, black raspberries, fig newtons and black pepper on the nose. Monolithic on the palate like an impenetrable wall of fruit. I am sure there is a lot going on underneath, but that will take a while. Right now its just delicious. Great texture. I bet this was singing by the end of the night, but I couldn't stick around.
