Flight 1 - Whites (3 Notes)

  • 2011 Arnot-Roberts Chardonnay Watson Ranch 93 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Consistent with prior notes, two nights in a row. Did this one for the group as a contrast to the DuMol and Entre Nous SB. Was nice to drink a diverse group of whites to begin the evening.

This AR is really a nice wine, Calif Chardonnay without any oak signature. Crisp and clean - nice fruit on mid palate

  • 2011 Kristine Ashe Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Entre Nous 92 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville

Consistent with prior notes - was a nice contrast to a DuMol Chardonnay and an Arnot Roberts Watson Ranch/Napa Chardonnay.. A diverse goup of whites to start the evening

  • 2008 DuMOL Chardonnay Isobel 93 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

Opened as part of a diverse flight of whites including a Arnot-Roberts Watson Ranch/Napa Chardonnay and Entre Nous Sauvignon Blanc. Opened for one of our guests (also an Isobel), couldn't resist.

Consistent with prior notes - last bottle. This is a really nice chardonnay. Would drink over next couple years - right in its zone.

Flight 2 - Oregon Pinots (2 Notes)

  • 1999 Beaux Frères Pinot Noir Beaux Frères Vineyard 93 Points

    USA, Oregon, Yamhill County

Drank after our white flights and next to an 07 Bergstrom Vineyard. Last bottle. Consistent with prior notes - made sure this got a 90 minute decant.

Red fruits are fairly mature, but elegant and nuanced. BF with some age takes on a Burgundian feel and texture.

Very nice, would drink if you have it over the next 1-3 years.

  • 2007 Switchback Ridge Petite Sirah Peterson Family Vineyard 96 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

This was the main event for the evening - needed something to pair with a cassoulet with a mix of sausages and spice. Still early on this wine (per Parker) but thought it was up to the task...Foley wines age very well but also (in my experience) can be accessible young

Decanted 3 bottles for 3+ hours - definitely recommend - was tight out of the bottle, needs some air time to really show.

Color is a deep/inky purple. Off the charts in richness as well as a full bodied style. Dark fruits, blackberry, licorice, meats, coffee, pepper, sweet spices, vanilla oak (mid palate). Tannins sweet and integrated(ing).

Concentrated, mouth coating texture - a real "purple teeth" effect from this wine. This is still very young but drink beautifully right now. A great pairing in Fall/Winter for any grilled meats, stews or braised meats. WOTN for this crew

Flight 3 - The Main Event - with the Cassoulet (2 Notes)

  • NV Meyer Family Cellars Meyer Family Port 8 90 Points

    USA, California

Always an interesting finish to the evening - can't think of this as a comparison to the big Port names. It's really a rich, fortified, sweet wine that is usually a crowd pleaser. Sweeter than most ports, has the dark cherry cola/candy signature.

Old vine Zinfandel made solara style (NV). Had with a fruit tort - would be great with any chocolate desserts

    Topped off a big evening.

  • 2007 Bergström Pinot Noir Bergström Vineyard 92 Points

USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills

Drank next to a 99 Beaux Freres, with salads and soups.

Medium/translucent ruby color. Nose of red fruits, raspberries, dusted cherries, spices. Medium bodied but not excessive.

Not as elegant as the 08, but still very nice wine. Still young, has several years ahead of it. Uncertain if it will improve much
