Nothing like a quiet dinner with good friends to nourish the soul, and we all needed that. We started with simple appetizers; cheese, roasted garlic and tampenade (accompanied by the A.P.Vin). Dinner was flank steak stuffed with spinach and ricotta, roasted root veggies, and a simple salad (accompanied by the Caymus and the Freeman).
2003 A.P. Vin Pinot Noir Garys' Vineyard
USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands
Medium ruby color. At first some sulfur in the nose, but that blew off quickly, leaving cherries, cola, spice, earth, a hint of licorice and that pinot funky mustiness. Tasted of chocolate-cherry-raspberry cola. Silky, smooth finish. A yummy wine, enjoyed by all.

1990 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon
USA, California, Napa Valley
Chocolate, plums and cherries. Some tobacco and cedar as well. A nice, but not a great wine. It paired well with the flank steak and roasted root vegetables.

2002 Freeman Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast

Earthy, black cherry, and cola flavored pinot. Spicy, with a smooth finish. Delicious wine. Also paired well with the flank steak and roasted root vegetables.
