Introduction

JuliannaD and I recently went to a comprehensive tasting of some of Domaine Louis Latour's Grand Cru Corton Charlemange and Chateau Corton Grancey. This tasting was hosted by the 2013 San Diego Bay Wine and food festival. Though quite expensive at $150/head, I found it was worth the cost as I was able to taste the following vintages: '01, '02, '03, '06, '08, '09, '10, and '11. The president of Domaine Latour, Bernard Retournaz, felt these were some of the best and most representative wines. He provided plenty of information and quite a lot of laughs as well.

And to be a bit nit-picky, more time with each flight would have been nice. I threw down quite a few bucks to have someone literally grab glasses out of my hand at the end of each flight. So, tasting notes are rather concise.

Flight 1 - Domaine Louis Latour Corton Charlemagne (9 Notes)

Not sure how informative tasting '09-'11 was as they seemed young and generally closed. These wines were presented from youngest to oldest. If this were the Olympics and I was handing out Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals, I'd be inclined to pick '02, '05, then '06. Sweet! I have all of these in my cellar!

Flight 2 - Domaine Louis Latour Chateau Corton-Grancey (9 Notes)

Once again I couldn't get much out of '09-'11. These wines were presented from oldest to youngest. I definitely preferred the more "new world" profiles; '05, '03, then '01.

Closing

A fun and informative tasting. The whites had much less vintage variation compared to the reds. Better time management San Diego Bay food and wine festival!
