Introduction

2 wines to pair with Chinese food.

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2009 Roc de Cambes 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Côtes de Bourg

Tasted blind after opening 2 hours earlier. Heavily perfumed nose. Assaulted the nose very much like a warm climate Aussie fruit-bomb. On the palate, rich creamy vanilla oak, creme de cassis, blackcurrants, and lots of milk chocolate. Bursting with flavour in the mouth with excellent mouth-feel, but finishes oh so smooth. Long finish. Kept getting better with more air.

  • 1999 M. Chapoutier Côte-Rôtie Les Bécasses 94 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

Decanted 30 mins. Some sediments. Mild flowery nose, kind of like wilted/dried flowers. Soft dark fruits. Balanced, elegant and delicate on the palate. Soya sauce and umami, with leafy forest floor elements. Not really bacon, but I got salty minerality towards the finish. Some dryness reminiscent of Barbaresco at the medium finish. Drink up now.

Closing

10 years apart. So different, but both so good in their on ways.
