Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2000 Pascal Doquet Champagne Premier Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut

    France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru

Tasted Blind. Powerful, mushroom, hint of truffle. Hazelnut, brioche. rich and round. No effervescence. Apple. Ripe, almost leave you a sensation of sweetness.
It's well done but it is not my style. I found it too heavy and lacking tension. Never been a fan of Doquet.

  • 2000 Champagne Fleury Champagne Extra Brut

    France, Champagne

Tasted Blind. Surprised when the wine was revealed as this was more elegant and had more acidity than usual with Fleury. A very good wine, fresh, yeasty, nutty with nice savory notes.
While the 2000 Doquet tasted like it was 20 years older, this showed fresh and balanced.

Flight 2 (2 Notes)

  • 2010 Alain Gautheron Chablis

    France, Burgundy, Chablis

Tasted Blind. Celery nose with fruit borderline exotic. Harsh (sulfur?), bitter finish. Touch of heat. Lemon. Very angular. Seems disjointed.
    Thought it was a Macon.

  • 1996 Jean-Maurice Raffault Chinon

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Chinon

Tasted blind. Excellent. Earthy, cassis, bell pepper.
Fresh, balanced and supple structure. Feels so much younger. A little Bordeaux like but with additional acidity.
    Great stuff.

  • 2009 Domaine du Traginer Collioure Vieilli en Foudre

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Collioure

    Tasted Blind
Tomato sauce, spices on the nose. Not very appealing.
Screams southern. Cassis. Lots of fruit. Heat on the finish. Grapey. Very ripe red fruits but decent acidity though. Borderline dried fruits.
    25 % Grenache, 25 % Syrah, 25 % Carignan, 25 % Mourvèdre

  • 2006 Primitivo Quiles Alicante Raspay Reserva

    Spain, Valencia, Alicante

    Tasted Blind.
Figs, raisins, rose and VA. Some oxidation. Tastes like Madeira meets Port. Feels like sherry casks has been used. Really super ripe. Palate is a little more enjoyable than the nose but overall it's just too much and it doesn't speak to me.

Flight 4 (2 Notes)

  • NV François Secondé Coteaux Champenois Rouge Sillery

    France, Champagne, Coteaux Champenois

    Tasted Blind.
Red fruits, fresh and lean. Balanced. Austere. A touch of green notes (veggie).
Thought it was a pinot d'aunis or Irancy.
Not really complex but very nice.

    2011 Lot.

  • 1973 Bodegas Olarra Rioja Gran Reserva

    Spain, La Rioja, Rioja

    Tasted Blind.
Clearly shows evolution both color wise and on the nose/palate.
A touch of oxidation, cedar, sweet strawberry and some oak. Elegant even if this is not totally focused. Clearly shows younger than its age.
The oak is very well integrated. Very nice.
