Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 1997 Domaine des Baumard Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru 92 Points

France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru

From a half. Light-med amber color; intense aroma, pure ripe orange fruit, great spice, nutmeg; palate is medium bodied, better acidity than the '05 surprisingly, cleans up nicely in the midpalate with some residual fruit, more tropical fruit; finish is clean, fresh. Likely headed towards maturity with much more time left. Based on this 97 and 05 tasting, both could use slightly more acidity. 92-93

  • 2005 Domaine des Baumard Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru 91 Points

France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru

From a half. Yellow-gold color; moderately intense nose, pear, also has great purity, less concentration/ripeness than the 97; palate is medium bodied, good freshness, medium acidity, white fruits, simpler through the midpalate; finish is medium length. Great balance overall, fresh, slightly simpler than the 97, perhaps too young, could use slightly more acid to give it some additional freshness. 91
