  • 2007 Domaine Saint-Damien Gigondas La Louisiane

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Gigondas

    Dark core with garnet rim; nose of mineral and framboise, ripe and fruity with some olive in the background; flabby, strong fruit though losing some snap, a little muddled; low acid, too much fruit, and no definition should sum up the '07 vintage.

  • 2010 Domaine Lucien Boillot et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

    Translucent purple ruby; sweet nose of dark cherry, lots of coffee, French oak, a hint of pepper, plum and cherry pit; medium weight, good minerality and cut, finishes with sweet and tart cranberry and cherry, some tannin as well; very young but very good; probably not a very long lived wine but enough stuffing to be suited to medium length cellaring.

  • 2004 Giovanni Manzone Barolo Le Gramolere

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

    Crimson core with copper rim; tar, roses, cherry, root beer/cola, maple syrup, aged, tea, teriyaki orange glaze, menthol; softer mouthfeel, lighter body, resolved tannin, sweeter, tar and tea on the finish; interesting Barolo; drinking a little advanced.

  • 2007 Conterno Fantino Barolo Vigna del Gris

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

    Dark core with crimson rim; some oak, sandalwood, nail polish, cherry, meaty beef stock, rose, menthol, a hint of bourbon; big and bold on the palate, big alcoholic cherry, cough syrup, some orange, rounded but very present almost powdery tannins; love this bottling from Conterno-Fantino for how feminine this normally shows (apparently on release) but this was a tannic beast needing a long nap to tame its ferocity.

  • 2006 Conti Costanti Brunello di Montalcino

    Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

    Dark core with a pronounced copper orange rim; ashy, dusty, almost volcanic, tar, cherry, roses, graham cracker; palate is richer and rounded, good bit of tannin and well put together, leathery; tasty; fooled me as Barolo; drinking differently from how I remember.

  • 2010 Fattoria Galardi Terra di Lavoro

    Italy, Campania, Roccamonfina IGT

    Dark core with garnet rim; nose screamed Cabernet Franc, green pepper, cassis, piney with sweet tart berry; tart on palate almost grapey, berry, blackberry, ashy, tobacco; good; swore this was young St. Emilion.

  • 2004 Patrick Jasmin Côte-Rôtie

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

    Dense cloudy core of dark red with light rim; raw meat, balsamic, tomato, raspberry, funk; smooth texture, plush, balanced; drinking really well right now; very tasty.

Closing

Didn't feel like being very objective this evening, so I didn't score. Sometimes you just want to sit back and enjoy the wine.
The Conterno-Fantino has the best upside potential, but the best drinking wines were the Lucien Boillot Corbeaux and Jasmin Cote Rotie.
