  • NV Ulysse Collin Champagne Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut (2009) Les Pierrières 95 Points

    A wonderful champagne. From minute to minute this wine started to develop new flavors. The initial Granny Smith notes turned into wonderful notes of breadcrust, apples and caramel. Highly complex wine and very smooth. One of the best BdB I have tasted so far. Drink now - 2025.

    At the moment this wine is still to young. It shows a tremendous potential and is a truly excellent BdN. I will wait for at least another 2-3 years before opening the next bottle.

  • NV Veuve Fourny & Fils Champagne Premier Cru Extra Brut Cuvée "R" 93 Points

    Bottle degorged in May 2012. When we opened the bottle it was a bit disappointing compared to the Ulysee Collin Les Perrieres in the glass next to it. But then after around 10 minutes the wine started to develop flavors of brioche, walnuts and caramel. It turned a bit into an elegant and light version of a Krug Grande Cuvee. I must say, this was my first bottle of Veuve Fourny and I must say that these are wonderful Champagnes. I expect this wine to develop wonderful notes when it is a bit older.

    Nice champagne. All on the light and elegant side. Likely still too young but already now to enjoy. Overall I must say I preferred the Veuve Fourny "R" to this one.

  • 2006 Bodegas AAlto Ribera del Duero P.S. 94 Points

    Almost black in color. Rich nose of caramel, black berries, plum. The wine is smooth and highly elegant but it has a tremendous power and complexity. I am usually not a Ribera del Duero lover but must say that all Aalto PS I have tried so far are excellent wines. Drink now until 2025.

    Deep ruby in color. Nose of berries. The wine has a nice sweetness and length to it. Overall a fun wine to drink and an excellent value. Drink now - 2020

  • 2006 Bodega Catena Zapata Nicolás Catena Zapata 90 Points

    The wine showed interesting flavors of cooked berries and caramel. It has plenty of power and length but all is a bit out of sync and I am missing complexity and the special something. It is a good wine but after one glass I did not really want a second. Good wine to drink over the next 5-8 years. For the price a bit disappointing.

    I could not resist to pop another bottle of this amazing wine. As my previous experience this wine displayed very nice fruity flavors of currant and cherries, caramel, chocolate. This wine is powerful yet at the same time elegant. It is a modern type of Napa wine but what I like about it is that its not fat as many of its counterparts. Drink now - 2025.

  • 2004 Blankiet Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Paradise Hills Vineyard 94 Points

    Deep in color. Nose of leather, earth but also currant. It reminds a bit of a Graves wine without the tobacco notes. The wine is still intense, showing tannins which are very well integrated into the massive power/fruit. Taste of black licorice and wood is coming through. A wonderful wine with a long live ahead. I expect this to peak in the next 5 years and can easily be drunk for another 15 years.
