Unfortunately, already over the hill. At this stage, provenance is key to securing a good taste of this vintage. Our bottle was in excellent condition, but who knows. Began to fade quickly and was barely there in the glass.
Still full of life. Remarkable as this was even a bit backwards with the first few sips. Took it's time to come around after about 2 hours in bottle. Fairly taut and lean with dried cherries and wet cedar bouquet. Lean to mid-weight - gained a bit of weight with air. Love the acidity in this - flavorful and long. A treat but I would say no rush.
WOTN! Incredible bottle, although the label was in very bad shape. We struggled with the cork so had to pour in a decanter which we were worried about given the age but this bloomed into a beautiful and fragrant wine. Exactly what you want out of an old Bordeaux - dried soft floral cherries with a bit of smokiness and dried tobacco and leather. The palate is resolved with good acidity and well balanced.
My 2nd favorite wine. Very impressed considering this is a '97. More taut and restrained with dark chocolate, cocoa, leathery, cedar and tobacco elements and cooler fruit.
Also liked this - very restrained for 2003. The Pauillacs are quite stunning for this vintage - maybe the left bank on a whole fared a lot better than the right. I was impressed that the alcohol levels were only around 12,5/13% too. Again, very restrained but also very primary. I would give this one another 5 years.
