Introduction

Almost a whole day spent at oinoscent. 8 different wines tasted by the glass. 4 different bottles drank after that. These are the only notes saved from the mayhem...

Flight 1 (8 Notes)

  • 2009 Tselepos Chardonnay Marmarias 82 Points

    Greece, Peloponnisos, Arcadia

Clear med lemon color. Clean with medium intensity, buttery notes, mild oak with alcohol hints, ripe citrus and pineapple. Youthful to developing.
Dry, medium body with medium+ intensity and 13.50% alcohol, medium+ acidity, palate copying the nose with huge alcohol impact, disrupting the balance, wnd with lime-y mid finish.
Good wine, mid to high price, drink now

  • 2009 Planeta Chardonnay Sicilia 89 Points

    Italy, Sicily, Sicilia

Clear and deep color. Clean, high intensity, aromas of overripe fruits, quince, sweet lemon-peel, jasmin, orange peel as well, ripe loquat, melon (??), developing a hazelnut note as well.
Dry, medium+ body and intensity, medium+ alcohol as well as acidity, the same flavors as were aromas with some sweet oaky nuances. Acidity keeps the balance, ends with a mid finish.
Very good, premium price, drinking now but could age, feels "tired" though and more evolved than expected.

  • 2009 Anselmann Edesheimer Ordensgut Dornfelder Spatlese trocken im Barrique gereift 88 Points

    Germany, Pfalz

    Clear deep purple color.
Clean with medium+ intensity, utterly peculiar in the nose, massive and complex offering fruits with violets, blue and black berries, vanilla and a certain chemical hint that I can't put my finger on what it is, but doesn't ruins the overall impression with the faintest hints of nutmeg on it. Youthful
Dry, med-/med body, medium intensity and alcohol, medium acidity and low tannins, oily texture, ripe blue and black berries, vanilla, inky too, a rather thin concentration, mid finish.
Very good wine, drinking now as the lack of tannins won't help the ageing process and the nose is a delight as it is.

  • 2007 Planeta Sicilia Burdese 90 Points

    Italy, Sicily, Sicilia

    Clear deep purple.
Clean, with med+ intensity, thick black currant and berry layer with sweet spices and sweet oak aromas, adding to the alcohol hints. Upon opening some more, violets, fresh tobacco, more complexity and more layers of fruits. Youthful
Dry, full body, high intensity, med+ alcohol (14.50%), med+ acidity, balance towards alcohol and acidity, tannins big enough keep it "masculine" with all that milk chocolate and mocca in there, alcohol bite.
Outstanding quality, drinking now but can age. A nice surprise from Italy. Congrats to George for choosing this...
