Great tasting of wines from a producer I didn't know before. Tasted with Evan Byrne, Giovanni Rosso's Export Director (?).
2011 Giovanni Rosso Barbera d'Alba Donna Margherita 86 Points

Tasting, brief note. All dark fruit comes across lush, forward on nose. Chocolate hints with some spice, good balance on palate. Easy to enjoy and appreciate.

2011 Giovanni Rosso Langhe Nebbiolo 86 Points

Tasting, brief note. Red and black fruit, elegant and classically styled with some tar and tobacco notes. Less ripe than I expected for the vintage with an ever-so-slightly bitter edge at the finish. Still good for its price and level. Better with food than on its own.

2009 Giovanni Rosso Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba 91 Points

Tasting, brief note. Sensational nose with red fruit, rose hints and licorice. Similar flavors, slightly more austere than I expected from aromatics, but with incredibly pristine and precise fruit, well supported by savory spice notes throughout.

2007 Giovanni Rosso Barolo Cerretta 93 Points

Tasting, brief note. Also starting with great aromatic combination of spice, red berry and floral notes. Very well structured but incredibly fine tannins with great balance throughout. Long and intriguing finish. Very good potential.

Tasting, brief note. Very similar to the 2007 just tasted, but seemingly with slightly less of everything. More accessible today, but less complexity, nuance or potential.

2007 Giovanni Rosso Barolo Serra 92 Points

Tasting, brief note. The clear highlight for me of this mini La Serra vertical. Ripe red berry aromas with licorice, tobacco, some tar. Slightly floral, less so than the 2007 Cerretta. Long and powerful with firmer, less fine tannins than Cerretta.

Tasting, brief note. Very impressive. A complete and balanced wine already, with lots of red berry and cherry and spice, mostly anise and clove. Very fine tannins and great textures. Very impressive.
