At Davyd's parents' place. What an interesting wine night with wines from all over the world. From New Zealand to France to USA to Chile!

  • 2009 Domain Road Pinot Noir Bannockburn 91 Points

    New Zealand, South Island, Otago, Bannockburn

    Tasted blind. 'Pungent' New World nose, quite typical of expressive NZ Pinot Noir. Wood, flowery notes with earth and loam on both the nose and palate. Quite similar to the Nautilus Estate Pinot Noir I had previously but this is a little less.

  • 2006 Château Duhart-Milon

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

    Tasted on Day 2, sealed via vacuum pump. Apparently very flowery nose on Day 1 according to Davyd. Shall refrain from rating as I'm probably not getting the full picture.
    Lots of sediments. Classic Bordeaux nose with obvious Cabernet herbiness. Oak dominates the palate. Barely able to make out the blackcurrant Cabernet. Chalky tannins. Quite obviously a Left Bank Bordeaux. Only 2006 but seems older.

  • 2008 CrossBarn (Paul Hobbs) Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 92 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    Poured through Vinturi and left to air in decanter for about an hour. Lots of sediments for a 6 year old wine. Strong sweet cassis nose with hints of chocolate. On the palate, blackcurrant, menthol, and smooth creamy tannins. With more air, it became more chocolately and creamy. No herbiness in this Cab Sauv. Only gripe was the high alcohol content felt towards the long finish. Otherwise a very enjoyable Cabernet Sauvignon.

  • 2011 Viña Maipo Syrah 87 Points

    Chile, Central Valley

    Tasted blind. Smoky roasted coffee beans on the nose, with hints of herb. On the palate, lots of green herbiness, and I could only think: classic Cabernet Franc! Some blackberries and mild spice towards the medium-long finish. Smooth tannins. Surprised to find out that this was a Chilean Syrah! I should have thought harder...
